England lost more than its spot in Euro 2016 on Monday with that shock 2-1 defeat to Iceland. They also lost their manager.

After one of the most embarrassing results in England's storied history, manager Roy Hodgson resigned just minutes after the match, saying "I'd have loved to stay, but we are in the results business."

England lost in the round of 16 to the underdogs Iceland and only won one of their three group stage games. Hodgson coached the team at the 2014 World Cup, where they finished last in their group.

From England's FA:

Like the nation, we are disappointed to lose this evening and that our run in Euro 2016 has come to a premature end. We had high hopes of progressing through to the latter stages of the competition and accept that we have not met our own expectations or those of the country.

We back Roy Hodgson's decision to step down as England manager and will discuss next steps imminently.

For now, we congratulate Iceland for reaching the quarterfinal and wish them well against France at the weekend.

Finally, our sincere thanks go to the travelling fans for their incredible support tonight and to everyone back home for getting behind the team.

It was to be expected after such a poor showing. The former Switzerland, Inter Milan and Liverpool manager couldn't get things going with a talented young group of players, and now England is looking for a new leader.
