Mexico soccer star Chicharito declares his preference between MLS and China
He wants to stay at his club, but he's been thinking about his future
Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez wants to stay at Bayer Leverkusen for now, but he isn't shying away from stating where he might end up next, with MLS and China as possibilities.
Per Kicker, the striker prefers MLS over a massive Chinese payday.
The 28-year-old Mexico international, who has been a star at Leverkusen since arriving, has struggled to score, failing to do so in over three months. After having 26 goals in 40 matches in his first seasion, he has seven goals in 23 matches this season. That has produced some buzz about him potentially leaving, but says he wants to stay in Germany.
Down the road though, he said MLS remains an attractive option over China, which has signed world star after world star to join the up-and-coming, money-fueled league.
"MLS is more attractive to me," he said. "But you never know what will happen in three, four or five years. Never say never."
Of course, if a big payday isn't his priority, then MLS makes more sense. He would still get a solid salary and would be much closer to his family that is in Mexico.
He also has Mexico teammate Gio Dos Santos to confide in, as he made the leap from Europe to MLS last year and has had success with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
If MLS can get him, it would be a big score for the league and would certainly raise the league's exposure in Mexico.
