Hull City midfielder Ryan Mason suffered a skull fracture on Sunday in the match against Chelsea and is in stable condition, the club announced.

Mason, 25, was injured after he collided with Gary Cahill for a 50-50 ball. He had surgery on Sunday.

Here's a look at what happened:

The club released the following:

"Ryan is in a stable condition and is expected to remain in hospital for the next few days. Everyone at the club would like to express their sincere thanks for the excellent and swift care given to Ryan by both the Accident and Emergency department and Neurosurgery Unit at St Mary's Hospital."

The club said it will update the public on his condition on Monday. Obviously it was a nasty collision, but the fact that he is in stable condition is encouraging.
