NYCFC star striker David Villa was shown a red card on Saturday night thanks to the Video Assistant Referee system.

Playing the Houston Dynamo in a preseason friendly, the Spanish striker hit Houston defender A.J. DeLaGarza during a corner kick.

Take a look.

Villa was shown a yellow, but after further review, a red card was given. The VAR system was just introduced in MLS preseason and could be implemented during the second half of the upcoming season, and it worked here.

Now when it comes to Villa, something obviously triggered him. Still doesn’t make it right. He deserves more punishment than just a red card after such an unprofessional reaction.
