SYDNEY, Australia -- Former Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Michael Enfield signed a two-year contract with Sydney FC of Australia's A-League soccer competition, team officials said Saturday.
Enfield scored a goal on his Sydney FC debut against the Wollongong Wolves.
"The club is delighted to have Michael on board for the next two seasons," said Sydney FC chief executive officer George Perry. "He has made a big impact, both on and off the field, since arriving in the country."
Enfield, a UCLA graduate, played on two U.S. national teams as a teenager, scoring seven times in 14 appearances for the under-18 and under-20 sides.
Due to eligibility regulations, Enfield, 23, cannot play for Sydney FC in its Asian Football Confederation Champions League first-round Group E games.
But Enfield, who played for the Galaxy in 2005-2006, would be eligible to play if Sydney qualifies for the competition's second round beginning in September.
