Red Bulls MF Marcus Schopp has hernia surgery

SECAUCUS, N.J. -- New York Red Bulls midfielder Markus Schopp had surgery to repair a sports hernia.

Schopp is expected to need two to four weeks to recover from the surgery, performed on Tuesday in Germany. The former Austrian international and national team captain was signed by the Red Bulls on Sept. 15 and played five regular season games, starting in one.
