Dynamo acquire Mulrooney from Toronto

HOUSTON -- The Houston Dynamo acquired All-Star midfielder Richard Mulrooney on Thursday in a trade that sent defender Kevin Goldthwaite and a first-round draft pick to Toronto FC.

Mulrooney was drafted by San Jose in 1999 and helped the Earthquakes win the MLS Cup in 2001 and 2003. Mulrooney was named to the All-Star team in 2002 and 2004 before he was traded to Dallas in 2005.

He missed most of the 2005 season with a torn ACL, returned in 2006 and was named the league's comeback player of the year. He was a commissioner's pick to the 2006 All-Star game.

Mulrooney was traded to Toronto FC in March and played in the team's first two games. He'll be available for Houston in Saturday's game against Red Bull New York, said team spokesman Lester Gretsch.

Goldthwaite is in his third season. He appeared in 20 games and started eight for Houston last season.
