Death toll in helicopter crash carrying Togo soccer fans at 22

Presented by Epson

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone -- The death toll in a helicopter crash near the Sierra Leone airport Sunday rose to 22, the majority of whom were Togo soccer fans, officials said Monday.

The government of Togo sent a six-person delegation to help with the investigation into Sunday's crash, after a majority of the dead were identified as fans who had come to cheer their team's 1-0 victory over Sierra Leone at an African Cup of Nations qualifying match.

News of the accident sent the tiny West African country of Togo into mourning. Togolese radio stations broadcast solemn funeral songs every 30 minutes, and President Faure Gnassingbe called for flags to fly at half-mast.
