SECAUCUS, N.J. -- The New York Red Bulls acquired Kevin Goldthwaite from Toronto FC on Wednesday in exchange for fellow defender Todd Dunivant.
It was the second player transaction for Toronto in as many days, the third in two weeks and 10th since the season started less than three months ago. Toronto acquired Trinidadian forward Collin Samuel on Tuesday after his contract expired with Scotland's Dundee United earlier this month.
Goldthwaite was acquired by Toronto from Houston along with a selection in next year's Major League Soccer draft for midfielder Richard Mulrooney on April 20. He played in nine games for Toronto, scoring the eventual winning goal in Toronto FC's first-ever win May 12. He also had an assist in a win over FC Dallas.
Dunivant played in seven matches for the Red Bulls. He was acquired June 27, 2006, from the Los Angeles Galaxy, the same day Mo Johnston was fired as manager of New York. Johnston later was hired as Toronto FC's manager.
Dunivant played two games with the U.S. national team to start 2006 and earned praise but developed a hip injury which precluded him from World Cup consideration. He had two goals and two assists in 22 games last season.
