Chivas USA adds defender Curtin in trade with Fire

CARSON, Calif. -- Chivas USA acquired defender Jim Curtin from the Chicago Fire on Tuesday for a conditional pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.

"We have been looking for a veteran central defender to solidify our backline ever since Jason Hernandez was picked by San Jose in the expansion draft," Chivas USA coach Preki said in a statement. "In Jim, we are fortunate to acquire an experienced back who is good with his feet and good in the air."

The 28-year-old Curtis joins Chivas USA after spending his entire seven-year MLS career in Chicago. He has played 151 MLS games including 70 consecutive from October 2003 to May 2005, and was a starter in the 2003 MLS All-Star Game.
