SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) -Marcelo Bielsa dropped injury plagued striker Marcelo Salas and several players considered critical of his style as he summoned the Chilean national team for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Venezuela.
Salas, still recovering from a variety of ailments, was not surprised by the decision.
"My current condition is not good enough for an international match," he said.
Salas, 34, suggested he may be nearing an end to his international career.
"We will have to see what happens next," he said, when asked whether he was quitting the squad.
Among those who appear unhappy with Bielsa was Bayern Leverkusen defender Arturo Vidal, who spurned the Chilean under-23 team that finished second in last month's Toulon International Festival in France, coached by Bielsa.
Chile will play Bolivia in La Paz on June 16, and Venezuela three days later. It will also play friendly matches here against Guatemala on Wednesday and against Panama on Saturday.
