Report: Former England international Peter Reid to coach Thai national team

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) -Former England international Peter Reid is reportedly set to coach Thailand's national football team.

The Bangkok Post newspaper reported Wednesday that Reid has been given a four-year contract.

"He has confirmed to me that he is ready to come and work in Thailand because he likes the country very much," Football Association of Thailand president Worawi Makudi told the newspaper.

The 52-year-old Reid is expected to start at the Asean football championships in December, giving him time to select players from the Thailand Premier League, the newspaper said.

Reid was a hard-tackling midfielder who played 13 games for England and spent time at Bolton, Everton, Manchester City and Southampton among other clubs. He has also managed several English clubs, most recently Coventry in 2005, and is currently a TV football commentator.

Reid could not be immediately reached for comment.
