VALENCIA, Spain (AP) -Vicente Rodriguez scored in the 81st-minute to lift Valencia to a 3-2 win over Real Madrid in the first leg of the Spanish Supercup on Sunday.
Juanma Mata and David Villa also netted in the 56th and 59th for Valencia, whose win marked a good start for new coach Unai Emery in his first official match in charge.
Ruud van Nistelrooy struck Madrid's goals in the 14th and 68th minutes.
Valencia's victory at its Mestalla Stadium improves its hopes of winning the trophy - played annually by the league champions and Copa del Rey winners - travels to Madrid for the return leg on Aug. 24.
Madrid was lacking injured defender Fabio Cannavaro and midfielder Wesley Sneijder.
Robinho, who reportedly considered not traveling to the match due to Madrid's refusal to let him join Chelsea, which had bid ?32 million (US$47 million) made the start for Madrid.

Valencia's equalizer arrived after halftime when Mata, a former Madrid reserve, controlled a bouncing cross from the left before lashing the ball past Casillas.
Valencia took the lead soon afterward when Mata's floated cross from the left was met by Villa's head at the near post before Casillas could get close.
Schuster responded by replacing Robinho with Arjen Robben in the 64th and four minutes later the Dutch winger raced down the wing and crossed for compatriot van Nistelrooy to equalize with his second goal.
Substitute Vicente played a wall pass with Silva before poking the ball home from close range to bring Valencia victory.
