Tauro defeats Chivas USA 2-0 in CONCACAF Champions League

PANAMA CITY, Panama -- Edwin Aguilar the only goals as Panama's El Tauro defeated Major League Soccer team Chivas USA 2-0 in the preliminary round of CONCACAF Champions League.

Aguilar scored his first goal in the sixth minute of the lopsided match Tuesday in the newly launched Champions League, a regional competition of 24 squads from Latin America, the Caribbean, the United States and Canada.

Aguilar didn't let up, scoring again in the 68th minute on a centering pass from teammate Luis Fernando Escobar.

The score might have been higher, but Tauro's Silvio Morelos bounced a long, hard shot off the Chivas' goal post at 21 minutes.

The two teams will face off on Sept. 2 in the second leg of the match in Los Angeles with the winner advancing to the league's Group D.

Eight preliminary round winners will advance to the group stage of the tournament, which replaces the CONCACAF Champions Cup. MLS's Houston and D.C. United received automatic berths in the group stage, which will open Sept. 16.
