SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) -Luis Santibanez, who coached Chile at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, died Friday, a doctor said. He was 72.
Sebastian Ugarte, a doctor at the Salvador Hospital in Santiago, said Santibanez died of complications from a kidney condition. He had been hospitalized for 10 days.
Santibanez was a sports commentator turned professional coach who won four league championships in Chile in the 1970s - three with Union Espanola and one with Union San Felipe.
He coached Chile's national team for five years, but left after the team finished last in its group at the 1982 World Cup, losing all three games against West Germany, Austria and Algeria.
