HELSINKI, Finland (AP) -Miroslav Klose scored a hat trick Wednesday to help Germany come back and earn a point at Finland in a 3-3 World Cup qualifying draw.
Finland led three times, with goals from Jonatan Johansson in the 33rd minute, Petri Vayrynen in the 43rd and Daniel Sjolund in the 53rd.
Klose, recently criticized for ineffective performances, took advantage of some slack marking to even the score at 1-1 in the 38th.
"All the time I have confidence for Klose," Germany coach Joachim Loew said. "His qualities are known for us all, and I had the feeling that he was to be better. That was to be seen in practices lately. Our faith in him got rewarded."
Klose hit back even faster the second time, allowing Finland to lead only for a minute by scoring his second goal in the 44th.
Finland conceded the third goal after a save by goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen hit a defender and the ball went back into play before Klose's finish.
Sjolund gave Finland some spark, scoring after coming in for injured striker Mikael Forssell.
In the 53rd, Germany conceded a corner as goalkeeper Robert Enke made a leg save on an effort by Johansson. After a corner kick, Vayrynen centered from the left with Sjolund timing his jump to perfection, heading from close in.
Sjolund also played the ball into the box where Vayrynen, coming with force, gave Finland a 2-1 lead.
The German's took over the last half hour with Finland defender Petri Pasanen twice clearing off the goal line.
"We saw we were lacking in the defense, we made mistakes there, but the centers were good and our positioning was not the best," Loew said. "Both these central defenders are young and not that experienced, but I will trust them."
