Van der Sar out of retirement and into Dutch squad

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) -Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has come out of international retirement to join the Netherlands squad for World Cup qualifiers against Iceland and Norway.

The 37-year-old Van der Sar was selected Friday in the 22-player squad with first-choice Maarten Stekelenburg out for up to six weeks due to a shoulder injury.

Van der Sar, who has made a Dutch record 128 international appearances, is only expected to play against Iceland on Oct. 11 and at Norway four days later before going back into retirement.

Goalkeeper Michel Vorm was called up to the Dutch squad for the first time.

Real Madrid midfielder Wesley Sneijder returns to the squad after a knee injury. He has publicly fallen out with Arsenal striker Robin van Persie due to a dispute over a missed free kick during the Netherlands' 3-1 quarterfinal loss to Russia at the European Championship. Coach Bert van Marwijk says he will address the dispute at training camp.

Defensive midfielder Orlando Engelaar was recalled, while PSV Eindhoven defender Dirk Marcellis was summoned for the first time with Khalid Boulahrouz and Wilfred Bouma out injured.
