AFC Champions League: Adelaide wins 1st semi leg

ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) -Midfielder Diego's 57th-minute goal helped give Adelaide United a 3-0 win over Bunyodkor of Uzbekistan in the first leg of their Asian Champions League semifinal on Wednesday.

Fabian Barbiero added another goal for Adelaide in the 76th minute and Cristiano scored the third from a penalty kick with one minute remaining to give the Australian A-League side the win before a sellout crowd at Hindmarsh Stadium.

The second match will be played Oct. 22 in Uzbekistan. The winner will face the other semifinal winners - Japan's Gamba Osaka or Urawa - in the two-leg final in November.

Diego scored his fourth goal of the Champions League tournament from close range before Barbiero added his first for United.

Brazil's Cristiano kept up his recent goalscoring spree by converting a spot kick in the 89th minute before 16,998 fans.

Diego's goal upstaged the appearance of Bunyodkor's Brazilian World Cup star Rivaldo, a former world player of the year. Rivaldo was booed by the crowd after a wayward tackle in the first half.
