Wales beats Liechtenstein 2-0

Presented by Epson

CARDIFF, Wales (AP) -David Edwards scored his first goal for Wales on Saturday in a 2-0 victory over Liechtenstein in World Cup qualifying.

The Wolves midfielder clipped Simon Davies' cross off the inside of the post in the 42nd minute in front of a sparse crowd at Millennium Stadium.

"It's nice to get my first one and hopefully there are more to come," the 22-year-old Edwards said.

Ched Evans sealed a second Welsh victory in Group 4 in the 80th when his downward header was diverted over the line by Liechtenstein striker Mario Frick's knee.

Wales could have gone further ahead before halftime, but captain Craig Bellamy's weak penalty was blocked by Peter Jehle after Gareth Bale had been tripped by Martin Buechel.

It was the third successive penalty miss for the Welsh in World Cup qualifying.

Bellamy was only prevented from making amends in the 70th by Jehel's fingertip save and the visiting goalkeeper deftly turned away Davies' injury-time strike.

Wales has six points in Group 4, while Liechtenstein has just one.
