EDMONTON (AP) -Mexico came back twice to draw with a spirited Canada 2-2 at Commonwealth Stadium in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday.
Ali Gerba and Tomasz Radzinski put Canada scored ahead in each half, only for Matias Vuoso and Carlos Salcido to level.
Canada had already been eliminated from advancing to the final round of Central and North America and Caribbean qualifying after losing to Honduras last weekend, but impressed on a chilly night.
In the 13th minute, Radzinski fed striker Gerba, who lobbed the ball over the outstretched hands of Mexico goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez.
Fortunes changed for Canada in the 35th when defender Marcel de Jong and Mexico midfielder Gerardo Torrado leapt for the ball and Torrado's elbow caught de Jong in the face. The defender had to be hauled off on a stretcher but Canada was penalized and from the free kick, Salcindo rocketed the ball off a defender's leg in the wall and past diving goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld.
Canada regained the lead in the 50th when Gerba crossed the ball over to a streaking Radzinski. Sanchez tapped the shot back to Radzinski, who simply redirected the ball into the open net, setting off a jubilant roar.
But Mexico leveled again in the 63rd when midfielder Giovani dos Santos crossed to forward Vuoso, who leaped between two defenders to header over Hirschfeld.
Mexico sits atop Group 2 with 10 points, one more than Honduras and three more than Jamaica.
Jamaica beat Honduras 1-0.
Mexico plays in Honduras on Nov. 19, the same day Canada travels to Jamaica.
