Lyon draws with Lille 2-2 in French league

PARIS (AP) -Lyon fought back twice to draw 2-2 with Lille and consolidate top spot in the French league on Saturday.

The defending champions needed an own-goal from Aurelien Chedjou and a volleyed goal from Italy left back Fabio Grosso to top the standings with 20 points after nine rounds. Marseille can cut Lyon's lead to one point if it beats Valenciennes on Sunday.

Lille opened the scoring in the 14th minute as Adil Rami out-jumped the Lyon defense to nod in a free kick from Brazilian midfielder Michel Bastos.

Lyon replied in the 23rd with an own-goal from Chedjou, who deflected in a free kick from Juninho.

Michel Bastos made it 2-1 with a powerful free kick from 30 meters (yards) in the 63rd before Grosso, unmarked at the far post, volleyed home a corner from Juninho to level in the 76th.

"We played against a very solid opponent," Lyon manager Claude Puel acknowledged on Canal Plus television. "We had to be strong tonight to come back twice."

Meanwhile, Yoann Gourcuff scored once and set up another goal to lead Bordeaux to a 2-1 victory that snapped Toulouse's four-match winning streak.

The France playmaker skipped past defenders Mauro Cetto and Mohamed Fofana with a clever backheel move before scoring from close range in the 29th.

David Bellion doubled the lead for Bordeaux in the 40th after receiving Gourcuff's headed pass and dribbling past Cetto to unleash an angled strike.

Etienne Capoue pulled a goal back for Toulouse in injury time, taking advantage of a mistake from goalkeeper Mathieu Valverde.

"I try not to think about what can be said about me," Gourcuff told Canal Plus television.

Gourcuff has been compared to Zinedine Zidane in the French press after his impressive performance with France against Romania and Tunisia.

"It must not distract me. I need to focus on the matches in the French league and the Champions League. The most important is what's going on on the pitch."
