D.C. United goalkeeper Wells has foot surgery

Presented by Epson

WASHINGTON -- D.C. United goalkeeper Zach Wells had foot surgery Friday and is expected to be sidelined about three months.

A damaged tibial sesamoid bone was removed from Wells' left foot. A three-month rehabilitation would have Wells returning about the time United would be assembling for the start of preseason training for 2009.

Wells started 17 MLS games this year, his first season with United. He had an 8-8-1 record with one shutout.
