LONDON (AP) -Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will persist in his attempts to reintegrate Hossam Ghaly into his squad despite the jeers that greeted the midfielder in the team's last match.
Redknapp tried to introduce Ghaly as a late substitute in Friday's 3-1 FA Cup victory over Wigan but changed his mind because of the boos and catcalls from fans still angry that the Egypt international threw his shirt in protest at being taken off in his last match in May 2007.
Ghaly is likely to be on the substitutes' bench again for Tuesday's League Cup semifinal against Burnley and Redknapp is happy to forgive what he thinks was a protest only against one of his predecessors - Martin Jol.
"I didn't know the full story but I don't think he was being disrespectful to Tottenham," Redknapp said. "He'd been subbed as a sub and was annoyed with the manager more than anything.
"It wasn't right that he threw his shirt down but the kid made a mistake and we all make mistakes. It's time to forgive and forget."
Jol and then Juande Ramos appeared set to sell Ghaly, who was not even given a shirt number at the start of this season in an indication of the club's continued efforts to move him on.
But Redknapp brought Ghaly and four other ostracized players back into the squad when he became manager in October, saying he needed all the talent he could get to lift the club away from the relegation zone.
