BANGKOK, Thailand -- The defending champion United States beat Russia 4-1 Sunday behind Jessica Rostedt's two goals at the FIFA Under-19 Women's World Championship.
Angie Woznuk and Megan Rapinoe also scored for the Americans on the island of Phuket. The United States (2-0) defeated South Korea 3-0 in its opener.
In another game at Phuket in the 12-team tournament, Spain got a goal in each half from Jade Boho and downed South Korea 2-1.
Woznuk opened the scoring for the United States with a penalty kick after two minutes. Rostedt had a goal in each half and Rapinoe scored in the 63rd minute. Ekaterina Sochneva scored for Russia.
The 12 teams are divided into three groups. The quarterfinals are Nov. 21 in Chiang Mai and the final is Nov. 27 in Bangkok.
