ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- Greek team Xanthi said it is willing to replay a game against first division rival Kerkyra because it earned a draw on an injury-time penalty it did not deserve.
Soccer authorities were examining the request Thursday.
Xanthi was trailing 1-0 in Sunday's original game when it was awarded a penalty four minutes into injury time. Television replays showed a dive inside the Kerkyra area by Xanthi's Petros Dimitriadis.
The 1-1 draw all but condemned Kerkyra _ based on the Ionian Sea island of Corfu _ to relegation.
"The one point we gained means nothing to us. But for Kerkyra the draw could mean relegation to the second division," a Xanthi club statement said.
The club said it would also be willing to replay the last three minutes of the game, with Xanthi starting 1-0 down.
Xanthi is in fourth place with 40 points. Kerkyra, spending its first season in the top division in its 38-year history, is last in the 16-team standings on 16 points.
A replay over a disputed penalty would be unprecedented.
Following the incident, the referee in charge of the match has been demoted to lower-division matches.
