WREXHAM, England (AP) -- Wrexham has been relegated to English soccer's League Two _ hit by a 10-point deduction earlier in the season for struggling to deal with its finances.
Wrexham lost 2-1 at Brentford on Tuesday night. It needed a win and for results to go its way in the final round this weekend to stay in League One, the former second division.
"An injustice has been done, not only on the field but all around the club," Wrexham manager Denis Smith said.
"This is not the fault of the players and we have not been relegated for footballing reasons, but by a rule. This hurts a great deal because if we were a poor team and deserved to go down, then I could live with that."
Directors of the 132-year-old Welsh club sought a High Court order to go into financial administration on Dec. 3 to avoid going out of business.
Wrexham was the first club to have points deducted under rules introduced by the Football League in June 2004.
The move is designed to prevent cash-strapped clubs gaining an unfair advantage over their rivals by preserving their league positions while an outside organization handles their financial affairs and tries to settle their debts.
