PARIS (AP) - Mamadou Diallo helped Nantes beat Metz 1-0 and avoid relegation to the second division Saturday, while Bastia and Caen both dropped out of the French league's first division.
Diallo scored the winning goal in the 40th minute for Nantes, which has been in the top division since 1963.
Bastia lost at Strasbourg 2-0, while Caen lost at last-place Istres 3-2.
Rafik Saifi gave Istres the lead in the fourth minute, but Sebastien Mazure equalized for Caen in the 28th.
Franck Chaussidiere and Azzedine Ourahou the gave the hosts a two-goal cushion before Anthony Deroin pulled a goal back for Caen in the 73rd.
Bastia gave up two late goals at Strasbourg, with Senegal forward Mamadou Niang and Sweden midfielder Alexander Farnerud scoring in the last six minutes.
Also, departing Lyon coach Paul Le Guen saw his team draw 0-0 against visiting Nice. Lyon, which has won four straight league titles, finishes with 79 points.
Le Guen is leaving Lyon, and club president Jean-Michel Aulas is expected to name a replacement in the coming days.
Second-place Lille claimed an automatic Champions League berth by winning at Auxerre 3-1, while Monaco drew 1-1 against visiting Saint-Etienne and will enter the qualifying rounds.
Lille got goals from Peter Odemwengie, Mathieu Bodmer and club top scorer Matt Moussilou, while captain Julien Sable equalized for Saint-Etienne after Ernesto Chevanton had put Monaco in the lead in the first minute.
Rennes finished fourth ahead of Marseille and earned a UEFA Cup spot despite losing at Paris Saint-Germain 1-0. Pauleta scored the winner.
Marseille finished fifth after a 3-3 draw at Bordeaux.
Peguy Luyindula scored twice for Marseille and Fabrice Fiorese got the other, but Bordeaux avoided its first home defeat to Marseille in 27 years with goals from Lilian Laslandes, France midfielder Camel Meriem and young prospect Pablo Francia.
Also Saturday, Lens topped Toulouse 1-0 and Ajaccio beat Sochaux 3-1.
Kader gave Sochaux an early lead, but Ajaccio replied through Brazilian Lucas Pereira, Abdelnasser Ouadah and Laurent Merlin.
Striker Daniel Cousin scored the winning goal for Lens.
