CARSON, Calif. -- Chivas USA, the worst team in Major League Soccer, released defenders Ryan Suarez and Alfonso Loera on Monday.
Suarez's release came two days after he was removed in the 28th minute of Saturday's 3-0 loss to the Kansas City Wizards in a rare first-half substitution that did not involve an injury.
Suarez rebuffed coach Hans Westerhof's attempt to explain the substitution when he reached the team's bench. Westerhof later criticized Suarez for poor on-field decisions.
Suarez scored one goal while playing in 15 of 16 games this season. He made 14 starts.
Loera started nine games, but missed the last three because of inflammation in his right knee. His release will allow Chivas USA to sign a senior international player as a replacement.
Chivas USA has a 1-12-3 record, including an 0-4-1 mark under Westerhof, who became the team's coach June 3.
