Scoreless tie gets Barcelona to Champions League final

BARCELONA, Spain -- FC Barcelona used a 0-0 tie with AC Milan on Wednesday to advance to the Champions League final against Arsenal.

The Spanish team won the series 1-0 thanks to a victory at Milan in the first leg last week. Ludovic Giuly's goal at San Siro last week was decisive.

Barcelona will play Arsenal at the Stade de France outside Paris on May 17.

Milan goalkeeper Dida made two one-on-one saves to deny Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o in the first half, and another block on a header from reserve forward Henrik Larsson after halftime.

Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko had a goal disallowed in the 69th minute for a foul on Barcelona captain and defender Carles Puyol in front of a sellout crowd of 95,000 at Camp Nou Stadium.

"The Shevchenko goal was absolutely legal. He jumped and hardly touched Puyol," Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said. "Barcelona played well, but the match was always in the balance and we were close to the final."

Barcelona has made five finals, with one title -- 1-0 against Sampdoria in 1992. Arsenal has never played in a Champions League title match.

"They had the better chances," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said of Barcelona. "I think we have a chance and let's prepare well. If you are capable of grabbing your chance, you can win the final."

Wednesday's match had an active start, with Milan midfielder Kaka shooting just wide in the first minute. Barcelona, playing in its 100th Champions League game, almost scored two minutes later, but Dida dived to block a shot from Eto'o.

With Deco, who missed the first game through suspension, supported by midfielder Andres Iniesta, Barcelona dominated the first half. Eto'o missed a chance in the 16th minute when Dida foiled him again.

Six-time champion Milan's best chance came when Shevchenko hit the side netting in the 23rd. Barcelona defender Juliano Belletti had an angled drive go just past the far post six minutes later.

Milan was periodically applying pressure, with defender Jaap Stam in the 33rd and striker Filippo Inzaghi three minutes later failing to beat Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes.

Barcelona defender Belletti missed an open goal in the 53rd minute when he couldn't get a touch on a pass across goal from Giuly.
