Valeron faces new injury absence

MADRID, Spain (AP) -Deportivo La Coruna midfielder Juan Carlos Valeron is injured again and will be sidelined for four months.

Valeron underwent surgery Saturday to repair left knee damage he sustained during Deportivo's friendly with Benfica the previous day.

The 31-year-old only recently returned to action after suffering a similar injury to the same knee during a league game in January.

"It has been a big blow for everyone," Deportivo doctor Cesar Cobian said.

Valeron has made 42 international appearances but last played for Spain in March 2005.

The Spanish season starts on Aug. 26.
