It's time for an old-fashioned fight to the death. OK, maybe not to the death, more like elimination. But this battle between the Spartans and Black Knights is going to be decided using what we used to fight with -- swords and shields.

Michigan State fans claim Sparty is the baddest mascot around. He must be because he just derailed the big train from Purdue. I knew a group of humans could derail the train sooner or later -- I was just wondering which group would do it. In 1995, a group called "Sons of the Gestapo" sabotaged the Amtrak Sunset Limited, causing eight of the 12 cars to derail. I figure if a right-wing terrorist group knew how to derail a train, King Leonidas and his 300 Spartans could figure it out as well.

In the toughest mascot battle yet, the Spartans received 50.2 percent of the 158,959 votes for the two schools. Michigan State had 79,758 to Purdue's 79,201.

As for the Black Knights, they are tough in their own right. They defeated some dudes with red capes in the first round and then disposed of Jack Sparrow and his clan of pirates in the quarterfinals. Just look at this picture of the Black Knight, which is known as the "Greatest Knight of All!"

Don't forget this Black Knight went to Army, which could give him a special edge in a land-based military operation.
