James Blake had only limited contact with the family of four found dead in his Florida home, the retired tennis pro said Thursday.
It was determined last week that a fire in Blake's home, which he rented to the family, had been set intentionally. Inside were four bodies, and it is believed that the father of the family shot dead his wife and two children before turning the gun on himself.
Speaking in Connecticut Thursday, Blake said that he felt for the family, though he had never really met them.
"I didn't know them," Blake said of the family, according to the Hartford Courant. "I'd exchanged a few emails with the lease agreement; never met them face to face."
Blake, who retired last year following the U.S. Open, lives in Connecticut with his wife and two young children.
The investigation in Florida is ongoing.
