| Dementieva won her first title of the year at the Gaz de France Stars in Hasselt, Belgium. The victory was her fourth career title. Her coach, Olga Morozova, was the French Open runner-up in 1974, which was the best result for a Russian woman in the majors before this year. Dementieva, plagued by a shaky serve throughout the Nasdaq-100 Open, in Miami, Florida, totaled three aces and 57 double faults in six matches.
