Schett retired following her 2nd round loss at the Australian Open.

"I played Australia because it was my favourite tournament," Schett said. "I always loved it here. That's why I wanted to quit here."

She played in 43 Grand Slam tournaments including the last 38. She was ranked as high as No. 7 in the world in 1999. She won three singles and 10 doubles titles and earned more than $3 million in prize money in her career. She also reached as high as No. 8 in the world in doubles. Her career singles record is 349-279. She won the last of her three WTA singles titles in 2000.
