Nadal claimed 11 titles during the season, including 4 Masters Series and the French Open: Costa do Sauipe, Brazil; Acapulco, Mexico; Barcelona, Spain; Monte-Carlo, Monaco (TMS, clay); Rome, Italy (TMS, clay); Bastad, Sweden; Stuttgart, Germany; Montreal, Canada, (TMS, hard); Madrid, Spain (TMS, hard, indoor) and Beijing, China.

He became the youngest player since Andrei Medvedev to clinch a berth at the circuit finale, the Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai. He pulled out of the TMS Shanghai because of a left foot injury, he sustained minutes before the opening match

He claimed his first grand slam title at the French Open, in Paris, where he became the second player after Mats Wilander to win in his first try.

At 19 years, 1 month and 22 days, he has become the third teenager in history (since 1973) to reach No. 2 in the INDESIT ATP Entry Ranking, joining Boris Becker (18 years, 9 mos., 17 days) and Bjorn Borg (18 years, 10 mos., 2 days) as the only teenagers to be ranked No. 2.

He became the second-youngest Masters Series winner (18 years, 10 months) after Michael Chang (18 years, 5 months) won in Toronto in 1990, and the youngest winner in Monte-Carlo since Mats Wilander in 1983 (18 years, 7 months).

He became the youngest player in the history of the Nasdaq-100 open to reach the final in Miami.

He now has 12 career titles. His first career win came in Mallorca, Spain, in 2002. He also won the 2004 Davis Cup.
