BAD GASTEIN, Austria (AP) -Edina Gallovits of Romania upset fifth-seeded Aravane Rezai of France 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 Monday in the first round of the Gastein Ladies, a new stop on the WTA calendar that is combined with the U-18 European championships.
Rezai, the only seeded player in action, broke in the first game and had two more breaks to comfortably win the first set.
Gallovits dropped her serve just once more to turn around the match.
Also through to the second round are Virginia Ruano Pascual of Spain and Eva Birnerova of the Czech Republic.
Pascual defeated Nika Ozegovic of Croatia 6-3, 6-2 and Birnerova beat countrywoman Iveta Benesova 7-6 (5), 6-3.
