Roger Federer moves to tax haven in central Switzerland

WOLLERAU, Switzerland (AP) -Roger Federer bought an apartment in the Lake Zurich village of Wollerau, famous in Switzerland for its especially low taxes.

The top-ranked tennis player left his native region near Basel for the community of nearly 7,000 people, which boasts famous personalities such as Formula One driver Kimi Raikkonen and former tennis great Martina Hingis.

The daily Basler Zeitung reported Thursday that Federer moved "a few weeks ago."

Filippo Beck, Federer's lawyer, told The Associated Press that the 26-year-old player moved with his girlfriend to Wollerau because he has a lot of friends in the region, and not for tax reasons.
