BANGKOK, Thailand -- France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga survived two tiebreakers to beat Czech Lukas Dlouhy on Wednesday and book a quarterfinal berth at the Thailand Open.
Tsonga, the No. 2-seed, beat Dlouhy 7-6 (9), 3-6, 7-6 (1) in the second-round match.
"It was difficult match," said Australian Open finalist Tsonga, ranked 20th in the world. "I didn't play my best tennis, but I won what was important."
Gael Monfils of France joined Tsonga in the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over American Robert Kendrick.
Jarkko Nieminen, the fifth-seeded Finn, had a 6-2, 6-0 win over wild-card Marko Djokovic -- younger brother of Australian Open champion and world's No. 3-ranked Novak Djokovic -- in the 17-year-old Serb's first ATP tour match.
The Djokovic brothers would also appear in the doubles event.
Nieminen moved into the second round, as did Serb Viktor Troicki, who downed French veteran Fabrice Santoro 7-6 (4), 6-2.
Italian Simone Bolelli toppled Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil 6-3, 6-3.
Other first-round winners were Austria's Jurgen Melzer over American Donald Young, 6-3, 6-3; and Germany's Mischa Zverev vs. Australia's Robert Smeets, 6-4, 6-4.
