METZ, France -- Carlos Moya upset top-seeded Ivo Karlovic 6-3, 7-6 (4) to reach the quarterfinals of the Open De Moselle on Wednesday.
Karlovic's defeat means the top three seeds are all out of the indoor tournament.
Moya beat the big-serving Croat for the fourth straight time, dropping only six points on serve and securing the only break of the match to take the opening set.
Moya next faces fifth-seeded Dmitry Tursunov of Russia, who beat Jose Acasuso of Argentina 6-2, 6-2 in just 48 minutes.
Tursunov hit 10 aces and converted all four of his break points.
Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic beat Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 6-4, 6-4 in another second-round match.
In the remaining first-round matches, French qualifier Adrian Mannarino upset sixth-seeded Andreas Seppi of Italy 6-4, 6-2; No. 7 Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic advanced 6-3, 6-3 over Julien Benneteau of France; South African qualifier Rik De Voest rallied to beat Frenchman Arnaud Clement 4-6, 6-2, 7-5; and Michael Llodra of France outlasted Feliciano Lopez of Spain 7-6 (11), 6-7 (6), 6-3.
