Rogers Cup organizers hopeful No. 1 Federer, Nadal will play

MONTREAL -- Organizers of the Rogers Cup are hopeful top-ranked Roger Federer and rival Rafael Nadal will be able to play next month.

Nadal's chances of appearing at the Aug. 8-16 event in Montreal are good despite the knee injury that prevented the Spaniard from playing Wimbledon, tournament director Eugene Lapierre said at a news conference Wednesday.

Lapierre said he received word from Nadal's team this week that the defending champion and world's No. 2-ranked player will be ready.

Federer's wife Mirka is supposed to give birth just as the tournament gets going, and the Wimbledon champion hasn't indicated yet whether he will be at the event.

Players who are scheduled to play include Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick.
