Vinci rolls to semifinals, closer to retaining Barcelona title

  •

BARCELONA, Spain -- Roberta Vinci of Italy moved closer to retaining her title at the Barcelona Ladies Open with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland to reach the semifinals on Thursday.

Vinci won the last 10 games to get even for a hammering from Bacsinszky last year at Luxembourg.

Next up for the unseeded Vinci will be the unseeded Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania, who rallied to defeat wild card Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in 2 hours, 25 minutes. Dulgheru was down 3-1 in the last set.

Top-seeded Francesca Schiavone of Italy beat seventh-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-4, 6-4 to line up a semifinal against Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan, who defeated Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic by the same score.
