Challenger Tour to try matches with no lets

NEW YORK (AP) -The ATP board of directors is going to take a closer look at men's professional tennis with no service lets.

The board has approved the elimination of service lets on the Challenger Tour for the first three months of next year. ATP Executive Chairman Brad Drewett says the board believes "a trial at the ATP Challenger level will be a good way to test this initiative in a competitive environment and get feedback from players and the public before deciding if it could be adapted more broadly."

Also Wednesday, the board announced a change to the penalties for a time violation that goes into effect next year. The move changes the penalty for a second and all subsequent violations of the 25-second rule by a server to a fault, and a point penalty for the receiver. Currently, the penalty for multiple violations is a point for both the server and receiver.
