All-French final guarantees first-time champ in Metz

METZ, France -- Jerome Haehnel and Richard Gasquet won Saturday to set up an all-French final at the Open de Moselle, with both players going for their first ATP title.

Haehnel overcame neck pain to defeat countryman Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-1) in one semifinal. Gasquet, 18, beat Jeff Morrison of the United States 6-1, 6-4 in the other.

Haehnel called for the trainer at the start of the second set to treat his neck pain and outlasted Mathieu in a match that went 3 hours, 10 minutes. Haehnel beat Andre Agassi in the first round at this year's French Open.

Mathieu, seeking his first title this year and third of his career, eliminated top-seeded Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia in the quarterfinals. In the 2002 Davis Cup final, Mathieu squandered a two-set lead against Mikhail Youzhny, giving Russia the trophy.

In 2002, at Monte Carlo, Gasquet became the youngest player to qualify for a Tennis Masters event -- 15 years, 10 months. Later that year he became the second-youngest player to compete in the main draw at the French Open.
