Two upsets mark first-round play at Sunfeast open

CALCUTTA, India (AP) -In a day of upsets third-seed Yuliana Fedak of Ukraine and eighth-seed Anastasia Rodionova of Russia crashed out of the Sunfeast Open in the first round.

Fedak lost to Italy's Alberta Brianti in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) while Rodionova was beaten by fellow Russian Alla Kudryavtseva. Kudryavtseva came from behind to win (1-6, 6-3, 6-3).

Fedak, who started strong in her first round match at the US$175,000 WTA tour event, said she may have been overconfident.

"Though I beat her earlier, Brianti played really well today. Maybe I was not fully prepared," she said, adding that the lighting in the Netaji Indoor Stadium not so good.

Kudryavtseva, ranked 186th in the world, rallied from behind to come back and beat compatriot Rodionova, who is currently ranked at 82 on the WTA rankings.
