Louisville overcame a slow start to outlast Memphis in a physical contest Saturday. Georgetown continued to break out of a mini-offensive slump after cracking 80 for the second straight game, while Pitt, Marquette, and Syracuse defended their respective home courts against inferior opponents. Cincinnati improved to 10-0 for the second time in three seasons with a win over Marshall.
Syracuse G Michael Carter-Williams and Louisville G Russ Smith have been among the most pleasant surprises in the Big East during the first month of the season. Carter-Williams has been one of the nation's top distributors, while Smith has blossomed into a dangerous scorer. Cincinnati, Georgetown and Providence also have been better than expected.
