Michigan State was supposed to be good following its Final Four run in 2015. But I'm not sure even the most ardent Spartan supporters could have expected this after losing Travis Trice and Branden Dawson. The Spartans beat Providence 77-64 to win the Wooden Legacy and get out to a 7-0 start.
Bo Ryan lost five of his top seven scorers from last season, including three NBA players. And he didn't replace them with any impactful freshmen or transfers. So the struggle is real at Wisconsin, and that was evident again during Sunday's loss at Oklahoma.
Everybody except Michigan State fans should be rooting for a close game in which Denzel Valentine and Kris Dunn go back and forth. So, in the spirit of that, we're taking Providence plus the points and rooting for that close game to materialize.
Cincinnati beat George Washington on Saturday to win the Barclays Center Classic. The Bearcats are the nation's first college basketball team to get to 7-0 this season. They're ranked 20th in the updated CBS Sports Top 25 (and one).
