BILL RAFTERY
(CBS Sports broadcaster) In 21st season as analyst for CBS Sports' college basketball coverage. Raftery fills that role on college basketball on ESPN. HE serves as CBS Radio analyst for NCAA Men's Final Four. Raftery served as analyst for NBA's New Jersey Nets (1982-2002). Since 1981, he has announced events, including Big Ten Championship, ACC Championship, Big East Championship, SEC Championship, McDonald's High School All-Star game and NIT pre-season and championship games. Raftery has served as course commentator for First of America Senior PGA TOUR event in Grand Rapids, Mich., as well as other Senior TOUR events. He was the studio host for ESPN's coverage of NCAA Tournament (1980) and was head coach at Seton Hall University with 154-141 record (1970-82). Raftery coached basketball and golf at Fairleigh Dickinson for five years, while also serving as assistant athletic director. He gained three NIT and four ECAC Tournament berths in 16-year collegiate coaching career and was named Coach of the Year in 1979 by New Jersey Basketball Writers Association. Raftery played three seasons (1961-63) for LaSalle University. He earned degree in history from LaSalle and master's degree in education from Seton Hall. Raftery received Honorary Doctorate from LaSalle University on October 14, 2001. He serves on board of the St. Barnabas Medical Center Burn Foundation. Bill Raftery was born April 19. He lives in Florham Park, N.J., with wife, Joan and four children. |
