GEORGE SEIFERT
Analyst, THE NFL TODAY Former San Francisco 49ers head coach George Seifert joins CBS Sports as studio analyst for THE NFL TODAY. Seifert, the winningest 49ers coach of all time, led the team to a 108-35 (.755) record and two Super Bowl victories (XXIV and XXIX) between 1989 and 1996. Before being named head coach, he was the 49ers defensive backs coach (1980-1983) and defensive coordinator (1983-88) under head coach Bill Walsh. Prior to joining the 49ers, Seifert served as secondary coach (1972-74) and defensive backs coach (1977-79) at Stanford. He began his coaching career in 1964 as a graduate assistant at the University of Utah. Seifert was named head coach of Westminster College in 1965. He was also an assistant coach at the University of Oregon from 1967 to 1971 and the head coach at Cornell from 1975 to 1976. An offensive guard and linebacker for Utah, Seifert graduated in 1962 with a degree in zoology. Born January 22, 1940, in San Francisco, he now lives in Los Altos, Calif., with his wife, Linda. They have two children. |
