CBS Sports presents 'Ice Wars'

    CBS To Broadcast "Ice Wars" Competition for Ninth Consecutive Year Scott Hamilton,

    who struck gold in men's figure skating at the 1984 Olympic Winter Games and became the most popular figure skater of all time, skates out of retirement to headline the OLAY PRESENTS ICE WARS: USA VS. THE WORLD, a professional team figure skating competition featuring skaters from around the world. ICE WARS: USA VS. THE WORLD, will be broadcast from the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. on Saturday, Nov. 30 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET/PT; taped 11/14) on the CBS Television Network.

    Four pairs of skaters featuring 1984 Olympic gold medalist Hamilton, 1998 Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski, 1988 Olympic gold medalist Brian Boitano and 1995 world bronze medalist Nicole Bobek make up the United States team, while 1998 Olympic gold medalist Ilia Kulik (RUS), four-time world champion Kurt Browning (CAN), three-time world medalists Surya Bonaly (FRA) and Maria Butyrskaya (RUS) compete for the World team.

    In its ninth year on the CBS Television Network, the competition consists of each skater from the two teams performing a technical program and an artistic program. A panel of professional judges will award the marks with the individual scores being added together for a team total. Each skater's first program scores will be worth one-third and their second program totals worth two-thirds of their overall score. The team with the highest score is the winner. USA leads the overall competition 6-2.

    Commentary for the event will be provided by CBS Sports figure skating announcers Verne Lundquist and Tracy Wilson. Lesley Visser serves as reporter. Ken Mack serves as producer.
