Pac-10 weekend wrap-up
SATURDAY

No. 13 Ohio State 42, No. 14 UCLA 20 |

After jumping out to a 10-0 lead, the Bruins looked like they should have been eligible for handicapped parking. Sorry, but when you have 11 players nailed for parking illegally in handicapped zones, you're opening yourself up to such shots.
Actually, they hung around for a while, and pulled to within 21-17 in the third quarter, but lacking so many key players, they wore down like crazy in the second half. Ohio State had big nights from just about everybody, including tailback Michael Wiley (119 yards rushing), wideout Ken-Yon Rambo (8 receptions, 2 TDs) and quarterbacks Steve Bellisari and Austin Moherman (combined for 21-for-35, 266 yards, 2 TDs).
SportsLine's Dennis Dodd writes that coaches are waffling too much on their QB decisions.

No. 5 Nebraska 45, California 0 |
The Bears missed two field goals, and the rest was Nebraska's Eric Crouch being a star. Crouch ran for two touchdowns, passed for a 70-yarder and caught a 60-yarder from Bobby Newcombe (who also ran for one). The Cal defense wasn't all that bad, other than the two long touchdown passes, giving up just 114 yards rushing and 57 yards passing. The Bears' offense, however, was terrible (145 net yards).

No. 19 Arizona 34, Middle Tennessee 19 |

The Wildcats burst to a 14-0 lead and coasted, leading by as much as 34-0 before coach Dick Tomey called off the dogs
er, Cats. Dennis Northcutt continued to play himself into national prominence with an 80-yard punt return. Trung Canidate topped 100 yards for the first time this season, and with Keith Smith out with an ankle injury, Ortege Jenkins handled the quarterbacking adeptly with 16-for-23 accuracy and scoring one touchdown while passing for another. Game story. |

Oregon 47, Texas-El Paso 28 |
|
The Ducks got a big game from Rueben Droughns, who last year was leading the Pac-10 in rushing when he suffered a season-ending knee injury. With 108 yards on 21 carries against the Miners, Droughns suggests that he's back
and with A.J. Feeley firing three touchdown passes in the second quarter, Oregon was never in danger. Game story. |

Oregon State 46, Fresno State 23 |
|
Ken Simonton rushed for 177 yards to continue to lead the nation in rushing (376 yards in two games), as the Beavers remained undefeated under new coach Dennis Erickson. They have now won 10 non-conference games in a row, and next week should have a walkover against Georgia Southern. |
|
Stanford 54, Washington State 17 |
|
The battle for the Pac-10 cellar was not close, as the Cardinal took at 24-7 lead after 16 minutes of action, and it basically got worse as the evening wore on. You want big plays? Stanford had a 67-yard interception return for a touchdown, a 44-yard TD pass, got a 52-yard field goal, blocked a punt for a touchdown, and recorded a QB sack for a safety. |
THURSDAY
|
at Brigham Young 35, Washington 28 |
|
Senior quarterback Kevin Feterik passed for a remarkable 500 yards and connected with Chris Hale for the 38-yard game-winning touchdown pass with just over a minute remaining. Washington drove the length of the field in the final minute but the Cougars turned them away near the goal line. |
